CVS Launches Proprietary Mobile Payment System U.S. pharmacy chain CVS joined a growing number of retailers offering their own mobile payment option at the POS on Thursday when it launched a service dubbed—unsurprisingly—CVS Pay. The proprietary mobile wallet is accessed through the CVS app and integrates loyalty, prescription pickup and payment—including Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account cards in addition to credit and/or debit cards. Like Walmart Pay, which debuted late last year , CVS Pay will use barcode scanning technology to transmit payment details. The company is piloting CVS Pay in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware and expects to roll the mobile wallet out nationwide “later this year.”

“Over the past year, our digital team has brought to market numerous new digital tools like CVS Pay that make shopping at CVS Pharmacy easier and more convenient,” said Brian Tilzer, senior vice president and chief digital officer for CVS Health. “We’ve been excited by the level of customer adoption of these digital solutions, and we will continue our quick pace of innovation and deployment to make our customers’ health care experience even easier.”
