‘Cinderella Moments’ and ‘The Payment of Things’ Highlight Day 1 Keynotes
May 19, 2015
CardNotPresent.com and CNP Expo CEO Steve Casco welcomed 1,000 attendees to the first full day of the CNP Expo with a message of global growth and the promise inherent in an industry with room to grow even more. On Tuesday morning, Casco told a packed general session room they were “in the right place, at the right time, working with the right people.”
Casco then turned the stage over to the first of two Day-1 keynotes. Jenny Fleiss, co-founder of fashion e-tailer Rent The Runway, emphasized the notion of testing concepts, avoiding a business plan to retain flexibility, using data wisely and experiential marketing. Fleiss talked about how the experience of the “Cinderella moment”—actually trying on a dress and undergoing a mental transformation—proved the value of providing an experience and ushered in an omnichannel strategy for the company.
Fleiss gave way to a discussion about the value of experimentation in payments and how merchants should be trying to reach beyond their comfort zones in 2015. The interview format featured Ralph Dangelmaier, CEO of Waltham, Mass.-based gateway provider BlueSnap, taking questions from D.J. Murphy, editor-in-chief of CardNotPresent.com. Dangelmaier pointed out that the Internet of Things will drive online payments from $1.6 trillion annually right now to more than $7 trillion in just a few years—a situation that will give rise, he said, to the “Payment of Things”—automatic payments via billions of connected devices.
