Checkout.com, an online payment provider based in London, signed separate agreements last week enabling merchant clients to accept Alipay and Discover cards. Checkout.com, which enables e-commerce merchants to accept cross-border online payments, said partnering with Alipay gives merchants access to its 300 million users in the largest e-commerce market in the world and adds a key alternative payment option in a region not used to paying for online purchases with a credit card. Adding support for Discover and other cards running on the Discover Global Network like Diners Club International will also benefit cross-border merchants hoping to expand internationally.
“Online cross-border purchases are on the rise as customers can now search around the world for the products and prices they want,” said Ricardo Leite, vice president of Discover Global Network. “Checkout.com is an important player in the online ecosystem and working with them aligns with our goal of expanding our portfolio of online merchants.”
