Chase Paymentech Launches Annual Holiday Online Sales Survey

Nov. 17, 2011

This week, CNP payments processor Chase Paymentech launched its sixth annual Cyber Holiday Pulse Index examining consumer online shopping trends for the key shopping days during the holiday shopping season. Pulse Index data for the first two weeks of November is showing strong year-over-year growth, with online sales up over 25 percent. Average ticket value, however, is down 9 percent in the same timeframe, continuing a downward trend for the fourth straight year. “Online sales growth continues to rise by strong double digits as the drivers of adoption and wallet shift remain the same: convenience, price, selection, and overall value,” said Sucharita Mulpuru, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research. “Forrester expects to see 2011 U.S. online holiday sales grow 15 percent over 2010.” Chase Paymentech will track and update aggregated payment data for 50 of the top online merchants daily throughout the holiday season in the Cyber Holiday Pulse Index.
