Online and mobile gateway provider BlueSnap yesterday revealed it has added Visa Checkout to its platform as a payment method available to its merchants. The company adds Visa’s online and mobile payment method to other digital wallets it supports including PayPal, Masterpass and Alipay. According to Scott Fitzgerald, senior vice president and head of marketing at BlueSnap, enabling the right digital wallets will be key for merchants moving even farther into a mobile-first commerce environment where checkout conversion continues to be challenging.
“It is going to really be an imperative to have not just a good set of capabilities but a good strategy on which wallets you’re going to offer and why,” Fitzgerald said. “To what extent can you design a checkout page so it doesn’t look like a NASCAR race, but yet still provides people the checkout options customers want to use.”
Fitzgerald points to recent announcements by Apple and Google that they will offer browser-based versions of Apple Pay and Android Pay, both for desktops and mobile Web, as indicative of the direction toward which online payments must evolve.
