A Visa survey of consumers in the Asia-Pacific region found an uncertain economic situation has not inhibited enthusiasm for online shopping. Nearly 82 percent of Internet users in the Asia-Pacific region said that, in the next 6 months, they plan to shop online. In addition, 61 percent of online shoppers in the region are satisfied with the current level of online payment security. Visa said that online sales in Asia-Pacific are expected to grow more than $71 billion by 2012. While most survey respondents said security was adequate, many cited concerns with how their personal information was handled. Retailers misusing or disclosing information to third parties was cited as a concern as well as hackers illegally obtaining payment card information.
